#Time To Get Off The Rusty Nail

Updated: Sep 3, 2018

Change has come! You are the master of change!

I was with a friend at our favorite coffee shop. We were drinking our favor latte drink. We caught-up on the latest news about our families and events from our communities. When our social talks was over, we felt the need to share deeper thoughts.

Our conversation went something like this: Why do we stay in painful situations, especially when they are holding us back and or not productive in our lives? When do you know it is time to move on? Why do we stay in situations that we know will give us the same results every time?

She told me this amazing little story to make me think. She said, "There was a farmer who had a dog laying on the front porch of his house. A visitor came by to see the farmer and his wife. When the visitor got to the front of the porch, he saw a dog lying on the porch moaning in pain. The visitor tried to ignore the dog's moans and groans. But after a short while, he stopped talking and asked the farmer, "Are you going to help your dog? He seems as if he is in a lot of pain and needs a doctor. What is wrong with him?" The farmer replied, "My dog is just laying on an old rusty nail." The visitor said, "A rusty nail! Are you going to help him?" Nope, said the farmer. "When he's had enough of the pain, he will get up from the nail himself." The visitor said, Oh...I see what you are saying. You are saying that when the pain is greater than the dog can bear, it will be enough. Then the dog will have had enough. And when he has had enough, the dog will get up off of the rusty nail." After another thirty minutes, the dog got up off the rusty nail. When he did, the pain stopped and he begins to heal. The moral of the story is when the pain is enough and when you are tired of the situation, you will get up off of your rusty nail.

Is the pain more than you can bear in your situation? If so, it is time to get up off of your rusty nail in life. The rusty nail won't change, but you can change and control your situation. You are the answer to your pain. You are in control, not the situation. There are many other avenues to a good life and accomplishing your goals. Get up and be your answer!
